ABOUT THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF KYOTO MUSEUM OF TRADITIONAL CRAFTS FUREAIKAN FOR RENOVATION

Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts FUREAIKAN will be closed for renovation from October 1st, 2019 to March 13th, 2020 and will reopen to public on March 14th ,2020 with a new name, Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design.
In order to keep up with the modern way of life like many traditional crafts are thriving to do, our museum is preparing to make a fresh start.

The renovation project supervised by the City of Kyoto has several priority points :
– Accentuation of the museum’s visibility from Nijo-dori street and making the museum more accessible to public from the main entrance to the Miyakomesse building to the museum’s entrance;
– Transforming the museum’s outdoor atrium which is now covered with water into a wood deck space where everybody can sit and relax;
– Developing interactive display areas dedicated to craft tools, techniques and materials, as well as spaces for temporary exhibitions.

Concerning the museum shop Kyo-Shion.
After a short closure, the museum shop Kyo-Shion will move from its usual location at the East entrance of the museum to the gallery space on the same floor and will remain open during all the renovation period, from Mid-Oct , 2019 to Mar 13th, 2020 (except the New Year holidays from Dec 29th, 2019 to Jan 2nd, 2020).
